Volunteer Opportunity
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro‑bono connections. The Youth Fishing League runs family‑centered fishing and environmental education events across Maryland and the DC region, with multiple events scheduled this season in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
A local media and PR system our team can use for every event we run this season across DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
Responsibilities- Build a press kit that includes 8 to 12 ready‑to‑pitch story angles for local TV, radio, and community outlets in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
- Create a media kit reporters can receive and use the same day.
- Write press release templates for event announcements, partnership news, and program milestones.
- Compile a targeted media contact list covering DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
- Develop an outreach playbook covering when to send, how to follow up, and how to frame different story types for different outlets.
The volunteer will work 2 to 5 hours per week on a 4 to 6‑week project. Deliverables will be used immediately and go into use the week they are finished.
About the Youth Fishing LeagueThe Youth Fishing League provides free, family‑centered fishing and environmental education events for families across Maryland and the DC region. We supply all gear and instruction so that access is never a barrier. Our programs bring parents and children to the water together, build connections to local waterways and conservation, and create outdoor experiences that families carry forward long after the event ends.
MissionWe want to bring more families into the water, especially whole families. Our literacy corner at every event is named in honor of the founder’s father, who taught him to fish as a child.
