Independent RN who provides safe and effective patient care to Intravenous Outpatient Department (IVOP) patients during the course of their treatment. Uses the nursing process to determine care needs, plan to address those needs, and determine desired outcomes. Assesses the patient for learning needs and provides education and support as indicated. Makes referrals to the Care Manager for patients requiring social, support, and financial assistance during treatment.

Supports and participates in performance and quality improvement activities within the IVOP department.

• Assumes responsibility for promoting a team spirit within the department and serves as a resource to other Frederick Health departments regarding care requirements for IVOP patients.
• Models positive interpersonal skills for co‑workers and patients.
• Actively participates in project teams, task forces, and committee assignments as needed.
• Assesses the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self‑care, symptom management, nutrition, and pain level of all patients using the Nursing Process to determine care needed and evaluate outcomes.
• Efficiently organizes and prioritizes patient care.
• Uses knowledge, experience, and critical thinking skills to identify and meet patient care needs.
• Makes appropriate referrals to the Care Manager, dietician, and Pain CNS as indicated.
• Continually assesses vital areas of concern for the IVOP patient throughout the course of treatment.
• Documents changes and informs physician.
• Administers medications and treatments as ordered.
• Keeps physician informed of patient changes & concerns.
• Serves as a resource person and patient advocate.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Able to assess and care for patients with special needs with respect to cultural, ethical, and religious differences and physical abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality related to employee and patient information.
• Knowledgeable regarding the effective use of body mechanics when handling patients, supplies and equipment.

• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.
• Must have at least 3 years of experience practicing as a registered nurse in a hospital, infusion clinic, or home health setting.
• Certification from the Infusion Nurses Society and/or the Oncology Nursing Society preferred.
