Job Summary
Serves as an integral part of the nursing management team. Provides clinical and administrative direction on assigned shift. Ensures that the goals and objectives of the Hospital and the Nursing Department are carried out. Serves as an administrative and clinical resource to the nursing staff and as an administrative resource to other departments in the absence of their department head. Acts on behalf of the hospital administrators in their absence.
Informs the Administrator on‑call of critical developments and seeks direction when necessary. Functions within limits of the State Nurse Practice Act, Hospital and Nursing Department policies and procedures. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of the Hospital and Nursing Department.
- Provides leadership and direction to all hospital departments in accordance with organizational and departmental policies and objectives; communicates with administrative and management staff on matters requiring their attention.
- Collects information to assess patient care needs and coordinates actions to provide appropriate staffing, provides and allocates clinical resources for nursing staff, and provides direct patient care in the clinical areas where competencies have been validated.
- Counsels employees and communicates interaction to appropriate Director or Manager; recommends and conducts disciplinary action as needed in accordance with personnel guidelines; prepares and presents performance evaluations for assigned staff in collaboration with the Manager or Director.
- Assumes role of patient advocate respecting guidelines found in the Frederick Health Statement of Patient Rights and Responsibilities; promotes professional delivery of health care; facilitates cooperative efforts of all hospital departments to improve hospital systems.
- Assumes responsibility for own continuing education and developmental needs.
- Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in the State of Maryland.
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required;
Master’s degree preferred. - Five years of clinical experience required.
- Current CPR certification; ACLS preferred or to be achieved within six months of hire.
- Appropriate competency validation if providing direct patient care in a clinical area.

- Adult (18 years thru 65 years)
- Geriatric (66 years and older)
Medium work – lifting up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes) and/or carrying up to 25 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 75 pounds infrequently or up to 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).
Ergonomic Risk Factors- Repetition: repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons.
- Forceful Exertion: the amount of physical effort required to perform a task or to maintain control of equipment or tools.
- Awkward Posture: posture that involves repeated or prolonged reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, working overhead or holding fixed positions.
- Contact Stress: pressing the body hard on sharp edges can increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
- Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Risk:
Category A – exposure to blood or body fluids. - Exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials and highly technical and heavy equipment.
Reports to Director of Nursing Resources.
SchedulePart time (2) 12‑hour shifts per week with weekend and holiday commitment.

Pay is based on experience, skills and education. If the position is part‑time, the salary will be pro‑rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non‑Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or overtime paid, if applicable.
Pay range: $38.17/hr - $59.29/hr
