Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for an ongoing Emergency Medicine locum tenens opportunity in Frederick, Maryland.

This assignment offers experienced Emergency Medicine APPs the opportunity to practice in a high-volume adult Emergency Department supported by physician and APP coverage around the clock. With approximately five shifts available each month, varied day, swing, and night scheduling, comprehensive diagnostic resources, and a separate pediatric emergency service, this is an attractive supplemental opportunity for Maryland-licensed clinicians seeking consistent exposure to broad adult emergency medicine.

Schedule

Shift times are adjusted periodically based on department volume and coverage needs.

  • Day, swing, and night shifts available
  • Typical shift length: 8–12 hours
  • Approximately five shifts per month
  • Current shift times will be reviewed during the scheduling and confirmation process

This position is best suited for an APP seeking reliable supplemental Emergency Medicine coverage rather than a full-time block schedule.

Clinical Practice

  • Evaluate, diagnose, stabilize, and treat adult Emergency Department patients
  • Manage a broad range of acute medical and injury-related presentations
  • Perform emergency procedures within credentialed scope
  • Order and interpret laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging
  • Utilize bedside ultrasound when clinically appropriate
  • Coordinate specialty consultation and higher-level transfers when required
  • Collaborate with supervising Emergency Medicine physicians and fellow APPs
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation within Meditech

The assignment does not include pediatric Emergency Department coverage, floor-code responsibilities, or admitting and bridge orders.

This established regional Emergency Department provides a clinically diverse practice environment with comprehensive hospital and diagnostic support.

  • Bedside ultrasound
  • Closed ICU model
  • Broad medical and surgical specialty support
  • Established referral pathways for trauma, burn, and pediatric patients requiring higher-level care
  • Separate pediatric Emergency Department services
  • No Fast Track assignment
  • No scribe coverage

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certified Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Acute Care certification required for Nurse Practitioners
  • Family Nurse Practitioner certification is not accepted
  • Active Maryland professional license
  • Current DEA registration
  • Current BLS
  • Current ACLS
  • Current PALS
  • Current ATLS
  • Recent Emergency Medicine experience strongly preferred
  • Comfortable working day, swing, and night shifts in a high-volume adult ED

Credentialing

  • Active Maryland license required
  • Standard credentialing timeline is a minimum of approximately 120 days following submission of a complete application
  • Temporary privileges are not available
  • Candidates should maintain responsive communication and provide complete credentialing documentation promptly
