salary- support salary scale grade s04: $18.88 per hour; starting
under the fair labor and standards act this position is non-exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the frederick county public school system. Please see linked salary scale for the full range.
overviewthe grounds crew worker must maintain lawns, play areas, shrubbery, and garden areas at building sites. This includes mowing, pruning, planting, tiling, mulching, removing materials, fertilizing, and spraying. In addition, this employee is responsible for snow removal at assigned sites.
essential functions athletic field care & maintenance (natural & artificial)- seeding, fertilization, aeration, rolling, mowing, lime application, trimming of natural turf fields. Chemical applications to turf.
- sod removal/replacement. Inspection/repair or replacement of athletic field assets (shot put, high jump, jump pits, baseball mounds, batter boxes, discus, tennis courts). Care and maintenance of artificial turf (grooming, sweeping, etc.).
- inspection and repairs to artificial turf, inspection and repair to artificial turf infill.
- debris removal of natural and artificial turf. Irrigation start up, winterization, adjustment and repairs to irrigation components. Maintains tracks including repairs.
- preventative maintenance inspections.
- maintenance repairs & replacements of playground equipment (pm's).
- playground surface enhancements/repairs.
- hard surface playground repairs (repairs to asphalt & basketball hoops & backboards).
- overall upkeep of playground systems.
- inspection of storm water management areas. Mechanical & chemical removal of invasive vegetation (mowing, cutting, spraying, etc.).
- reconstruction of inflow and outflow areas of storm water. Debris removal, trash removal.
- maintenance of filterra systems.
- repair/replacement of some storm water management assets (clean out tubes, pvc pipe, rip rap stone, brick risers, grate replacement).
- sign replacements & repairs. Asphalt repairs.
- minor concrete repairs. Maintains paved surfaces.
- tree trimming, replacement and removal of trees. Removal of stumps.
- fence & gate repairs/adjustments.
- deliveries of landscaping materials (including fuel).
- snow removal. General landscaping tasks, shearing, shrub/plant removal, trimming, storm cleanup.
- labor entries, material entries, cost capturing/tracking credit card receipts.
- leave entry.

required qualifications- high school diploma or ged equivalent
- valid driver's license, maintained in compliance with fcps regulation.
- maryland state herbicide and pesticide control registered technician qualification (or able to obtain during the probationary period).
- forklift operator certified (or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire).
- traffic flagger certification (or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire).
- completion of mobile platform safety course (or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire).
- 2-3 years experience in the grounds maintenance field.
- familiarity with the fcps policies, goals and programs.
- professional maryland fertilizer applicator license.
- maryland pesticide applicator license, class 3a & 3c (ornamental and turf).
- demonstrates familiarity with fcps policies, goals and programs and commitment to fcps's vision, mission and values.
