The Montgomery County Department of Parks is looking for a motivated green industry professional to join the Athletic Field Team as a Athletic Field Technician
. The role requires outdoor work, teamwork, a strong work ethic, and attention to detail.
Work hours are 5:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities- Performs skilled athletic field maintenance and renovation work.
- Turfgrass tasks – baseball/softball infield maintenance, mowing, edging, aeration, seeding, nutrient management, and sod removal/installation.
- Operates equipment such as trucks, tractors with attachments (aerification equipment, seeders, rollers, sprayers, sprigger), sod installation equipment, zero‑turn mowers, and walk‑behind aerification equipment.
- General grounds maintenance – leaf collection, litter cleanup, hardscapes repair, fencing repair, weeding, removing fallen trees, pruning, and snow removal.
- Understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions effectively and efficiently.
- Communicate any concerns and/or needs of the project or athletic field and equipment.
- Work as part of a group while occasionally working alone on projects.
- May be required to drive Commission vehicles upon completion of defensive driving training.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- One year of outdoor landscape industry experience in lawncare, grounds maintenance, athletic field maintenance/renovation, or equivalent.
- Ability to communicate in another language – a plus.
No experience or training is necessary except for specialized skills (e.g., typing) or licenses/certificates (e.g., Red Cross Life Saving Certificate) that are directly related to the job.
May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
Benefits- These positions are seasonal and do not include a benefits package.
