Summary: The Genomic Characterization Staff Scientist will perform advanced molecular biology research, including sequencing, genomic analysis, and molecular characterization, to support threat agent surveillance and countermeasure discovery. They will support the Molecular Biology Division by conducting research focused on the genomic characterization of biological threat agents.

Responsibilities

• Conduct genomic sequencing and analysis of bacterial/viral agents.
• Perform nucleic acid extractions and library preparation.
• Use bioinformatics tools to analyze and interpret sequencing data.
• Contribute to technical reports and manuscripts.
• Work under BSL-2/3 conditions as needed.
• Share findings with the project team and present results in meetings.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

• Hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing platforms.
• Proficiency with software like BLAST, GATK, and CLC Genomics.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with high-throughput lab environments.
• Knowledge in a relevant life sciences field and research laboratory experience.
• Evidence of subject matter expertise through publications or technical reports.
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, genomics, or related field.
• Minimum 4+ years in molecular biology or genomics.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility.
• Enrollment in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• ACTIVE SECRET clearance preferred.
• Master’s degree preferred.

Pay and Benefits
