Position Objective: The Virology Research Scientist will provide services in support of the overall functions of the Office of Chief Scientist – Integrated Research Facility (OCSIRF) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The PI-2 Core has the principal focus of developing and executing an independent research program focused on understanding aspects of infection, pathogen replication or pathogenesis to support the mission of the IRF-Frederick and NIAID.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Provide research services to support animal studies, such as perform virology research that is focused on high-risk (BSL-3 and/or BSL-4) viral pathogens.

- Develop and manage independent research as overseen by more Senior research staff.
- Work will include proper documentation of research, collation of research data, manuscript writing and presentation and supporting other research activities as directed.
- Execute independent research as overseen by the Federal Task Leader and other senior members
- Maintain good laboratory research documentation including laboratory notebooks (electronic or otherwise)
- Maintain proper inventory of any virological agents and specialized reagents
- Submit peer-reviewed publications, preferably in high impact journals
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of a PhD or similar from an accredited college or university with a focus on virology, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Virology research experience (>2 years preferred) with a focus on Risk Group 3 or 4 viruses preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Analytic, organizational, and time management skills.
