About IB
IB is a joint research enterprise of the University of Maryland, College Park, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. IB leverages state‑of‑the‑art integrative methods for bioanalytical, biophysical and structural characterization of biomolecules, including cryo‑electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, X‑ray crystallography, small angle neutron and X‑ray scattering, and mass spectrometry. The goal is to advance therapeutic development, biomanufacturing, and measurement technologies to support accelerated delivery of safe and effective medicines.
Position:Assistant Research Professor
Area of process characterization, modeling (digital twin) and control for biomanufacturing, with a focus on mammalian cell bioprocesses.
Responsibilities- Coordinate interactions with internal and external collaborators and facility users.
- Lead own novel research projects and provide consultation, assistance, and collaboration on projects with facility users.
- Support and train internal students and postdocs, as well as external users from other institutions.
- Develop and evaluate upstream and downstream processes; study effects of process modifications on product CQAs using the NISTCHO testbed and its product, the cNISTmAb.
- Explore new process monitoring technologies for upstream analysis, such as new probes for in‑line and at‑line monitoring.
- Ph.D. in bioengineering, biochemical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, or related fields.
- At least 3 years of prior experience in bioprocess characterization, monitoring, and modeling.
- Experience managing research projects, drafting reports and proposals, representing research programs to external stakeholders, and providing training in research techniques.

Regular Faculty salary range: $110,000 – $130,000. Benefits summary available at the university’s benefits portal.
