Research Scientist – Virology & Immunology

Piper Companies is seeking a Research Scientist I – Virology & Immunology to join a cutting‑edge government‑focused research program within the infectious disease and biodefense space for an onsite 6‑month contract to hire engagement based out of Frederick, MD
. The Research Scientist I – Virology & Immunology will contribute to critical laboratory studies supporting vaccine, therapeutic, and antiviral development in a highly regulated and fast‑paced environment.

• Support preclinical research studies by executing laboratory experiments across various biosafety levels, contributing to infectious disease research efforts.
• Conduct downstream analysis using a variety of immunological and molecular assays to evaluate viral behavior and immune responses.
• Develop and maintain complex in vitro cell models, including advanced systems such as organoids and other physiologically relevant platforms.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional scientific teams to analyze data, prepare reports, and present findings to internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with strict laboratory safety protocols, maintain inventory of biological materials, and assist with regulatory and operational requirements.

• Master’s degree in a life sciences discipline such as virology, microbiology, immunology, or a closely related field.
• At least 5 years of hands‑on laboratory experience following completion of an advanced degree.
• Demonstrated experience performing virology‑related studies, including immune‑based assays and molecular lab techniques.
• Strong background working with advanced cell culture techniques and complex experimental systems.
• Eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance and willingness to complete required federal reliability programs.

Salary Range: $40‑$45/hr (USD)
