Job Description
The Cashier is responsible for selling tickets from HCC's box office for various theater shows and college events beginning one hour prior to show time. Shows are held on the campus of HCC in the Chesapeake Theater, the APG Federal Credit Union Arena, Joppa Hall, and at the Amoss Center (Harford Technical High School) adjacent to the College campus.
The Cashier will reconcile event sales including cash, checks, and credit card receipts; prepare sales figures; and secure receipts in a safe upon closing the box office.
Training on HCC's ticketing software and box office procedures will be provided.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. Work is generally performed on the College campus unless otherwise specified.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States; the College does not offer visa sponsorship for this position.
Responsibilities
- Sell tickets for theater shows and college events.
- Reconcile event sales (cash, checks, credit card receipts).
- Prepare sales figures and secure receipts in a safe at closing.
- Operate ticketing software and box office procedures.
Required Education
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Required Experience
One year clerical, office, cashier or related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic mathematical skills for calculating sales and balancing receipts.
- Comfortable using and learning various office machines such as a calculator and credit card terminal.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Polite and professional customer service in a fast‑paced work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two to three years of customer service experience, cashier, bank teller, or clerical support.
- Knowledge of ticket generating software and basic cashier functions related to accepting and processing payments and reconciling sales.
General Weekly Work Schedule
Work schedule will be assigned by the supervisor on an as‑needed basis; typical assignments are two to three hours per event, including evening and weekend hours. The hours of part‑time, as‑needed employees are limited to less than 500 hours in each fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).
