Account Manager

Location:

Frederick, MD - Retail shop

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute sales plans to serve existing accounts, obtain orders, and establish new accounts. Qualify and pursue sales leads.
  • Cultivate customer relationships by developing deep knowledge of the customer's business and establishing a consultative relationship.
  • Engage customers by linking their business priorities to the Airgas value proposition.
  • Prepare sales proposals with pricing, credit terms, and estimated delivery dates.
  • Keep current with industry insights, Airgas product mix, and competition; gather marketplace information on pricing, products, and delivery schedules.
  • Partner with internal resources to achieve growth objectives and maintain clear communication with internal departments regarding customer successes and opportunities.
  • Maintain and submit sales reports (daily call reports, weekly work plans, monthly and annual territory analyses) as required by the District Manager via SAP.
  • Actively review and manage existing customer accounts receivable balances to minimize working capital investment and financial risk.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, business, or related field required; alternatively, up to 4 years of related experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of prior outside B2B sales experience with proven solution‑selling success and a history of managing customers within a defined sales territory.
  • Familiarity with industrial and specialty gases, industrial gas/welding supply sales an advantage.
  • Knowledge of customer segmentation and ability to prioritize high‑value customers.
  • Proven success using a consultative sales approach to deliver multiple layers of value.
  • Deep knowledge of customer business, macro‑ and micro‑economic trends, industry trends, and new business opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of SAP an advantage.
  • Excellent organizational, written, oral, listening, and presentation skills.
  • Strong PC skills (Windows, Word, Excel, email) and ability to learn a PC‑based order entry system and handheld scanning device.
  • Self‑starter, self‑motivated, sense of urgency, ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with few standardizations.
  • Reliable transportation, current driver’s license, and minimum liability insurance as required by state.
Physical Demands
  • May be required to remain stationary or sit in a vehicle for extended periods.
  • Might occasionally need to travel through office and/or manufacturing locations.
  • Frequently required to actively listen and exchange information.
  • Requires frequent use of computer, telephone, and operation of a motor vehicle.
  • May occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
Work Environment
  • Frequent local travel (~75% of work time); minimal overnight travel.
  • Must have reliable, appropriate transportation.
  • Visits customer sites with varying environments.
