Program DescriptionThe Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The Vaccine, Immunity, and Cancer Directorate (VICD) has a mission to provide scientific leadership and laboratory infrastructure to study immune responses to HPV vaccines, influenza vaccines, and other cancer preventive strategies in clinical and preclinical studies as well as gene therapy.
KeyRoles/Responsibilities
VICD seeks an energetic cross-functional Scientific Project Manager with a strong immunology background to support a highly visible initiative. The role involves laboratory science and end-to-end project management, including planning, schedules, budgets, deliverables, reporting, publications, subcontract management, and stakeholder engagement. This onsite position includes laboratory work; no telework option.
Specific Duties Will Include- Support laboratory projects including sample management, testing, and data analyses in a GCLP environment.
- Optimize and validate immune assay procedures for assessing immune response to infection and vaccines (ELISA, Luminex, flow cytometry, virus neutralization, ADCC, PCR, western blot).
- Collaborate with Scientific Manager, Directors and collaborators to manage and provide project support.
- Provide scientific and administrative project management support, including drafting and revising technical responses and coordinating responses for Statements of Work, New Work Packages, and proposals.
- Translate strategic objectives into work breakdown structures, milestones, deliverables, deadlines, and budgets; keep plans current and visible.
- Monitor clinical study schedules, resources and performance, and assist with driving tasks to completion with timely stakeholder follow‑up.
- Generate and monitor all contractual deliverables and prepare reports, ensuring timely submissions.
- Organize and facilitate program meetings with internal and external stakeholders, prepare meeting materials, minutes, manage action items, and handle logistics.
- Manage subcontractors with financial tracking, progress reports, schedules, and approve invoices as required.
- Serve as technical project manager and subject matter expert for subcontracts involving biospecimen acquisition and immunology deliverables.
- Coordinate technical reviews of subcontractor proposals, consolidate feedback, and provide recommendations.
- Perform scientific review of subcontractor proposals, provide technical comments, coordinate feedback distribution.
- Develop scientific protocols and SOPs, and other documents for the laboratory as required.
- Collaborate with VICD Operations Team and stakeholders for intellectual property, CRADAs, material transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, subcontracts.
- Lead oral presentations and meetings with stakeholders.
- Develop scientific proposals, write manuscripts, and conduct statistical analyses.
- Maintain knowledge of the latest literature and presentations relevant to projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- PhD in immunology, virology, or related biomedical field from an accredited institution; foreign degrees evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- Expertise in tissue culture and immunological/virological techniques including aseptic techniques, cell line maintenance, plasmid and virus-like particle production, western blot, ELISA, Luminex, flow cytometry, virus neutralization, and PCR.
- Strong scientific knowledge of vaccines, immunology, virology, and serology.
