The Chesapeake College Department of Public Safety seeks a part-time Public Safety Officer to patrol the Wye Mills campus and Cambridge Center by vehicle, bicycle, or foot; act as first responder to incidents, accidents, and emergencies; conduct initial and follow-up investigations; unlock and secure buildings; participate in safety drills; provide escorts; and deliver crime prevention education and community‑oriented public safety programming.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or G.E.D. required. Must meet State of Maryland qualifications to receive Special Police Officer commission and Handgun Carry Permit.
Desired ExperienceSuccessful completion of a Police, Corrections or Special Police Officer academy and minimum of three years of related experience in policing or corrections is strongly preferred. Honorably discharged military and security officers with a minimum of three years of related experience are encouraged to apply and will be eligible for increased pay upon successful completion of the Special Police Officer academy.
AdditionalRequirements
Must be able to maintain confidentiality; project a positive image; work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays; have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record; walk or stand for long periods; work outdoors; and pass a drug screening test and background investigation. Knowledge of Maryland laws and rules, motor vehicle operations, and modern policing practices is required. Must support and promote the mission of Chesapeake College.
CompensationCompetitive pay: $27.00 per hour for former law enforcement, corrections and special police officers.
Starting pay: $24.50 per hour for military and security until certification.
Paid training, SPO certification & re‑certification, uniforms.
