Emergency Relief position to work on an as‑needed basis. Weekends and holidays required. Driver’s license and a clear driving record required.

Job Summary

Receiving general direction from the Safety and Security Director, Supervisor or Lead Officer, the incumbent shall provide a safe and secure environment for hospital patients, visitors and employees by enforcing hospital security regulations and by continuously watching for and reporting any hazards or unusual occurrences through patrol of assigned areas. The incumbent will provide protective service and response for the protection of the people and property of the hospital and is responsible for assisting with the day‑to‑day operation of the department.

Functions
  • Provide protection to people and property through patrol, investigation, monitoring alarms and surveillance cameras.
  • Provide escorts for staff, visitors and patients as requested.
  • Apprehend criminal violators when necessary and appropriate.
  • Provide emergency response to a variety of situations.
  • Apply patient restraints as needed.
  • Patrol assigned areas, both buildings and grounds, visiting areas where security problems have occurred.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas/property to help prevent theft, injuries or damages to hospital property, patients, visitors and employees.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations into thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct by questioning individuals involved with specific incidents. Keep supervisor informed at all times.
  • Prepare and submit written reports and daily events in a complete, timely and accurate manner. Log all responses and incidents.
  • Maintain accountability for valuables/property and other forms of evidence, ensuring safekeeping and maintaining documentation.
  • Perform fire drills as required.
  • Assist in morgue releases and ensure medical record checklist for expired patients.
  • Provide support to tissue recovery team.
  • Monitor CCTV and access control systems.
  • Ready and secure helicopter landing area. Escort medical personnel to patient location. Provide support for patient transports.
  • Assist patients in workplace violence incidents; respond to medical emergencies; control pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
  • Act as a first responder to Haz Mat incidents.
  • Create safety awareness among patients, visitors and staff.
  • Actively participate in any safety and security quality improvement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot parking gates machines when necessary to ensure proper operation of all parking equipment.
  • Maintain all hospital‑issued uniforms and equipment.
  • Conduct a wide range of customer service tasks.
  • Manage visitor entry into the hospital and maintain proper and safe visitation.
  • May have to work other shifts as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.

Minimum Education , Training, And Experience Required
  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • No experience required, but 1–3 years of security or related experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record with no convictions in the last 3 years, including DUI, reckless driving or felony driving.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Obtain within the first 6 months:
    De‑Escalation Training.
  • Obtain within the first 90 days: IAHSS Basic Officer Certification and CPR.
