Overview
The Electronic Security Systems (ESS) Technician III applies technical knowledge to maintain legacy security management systems and solve issues to include a variety of subsystems within the Electronic Security System (ESS), Intrusion Detection System (IDS), Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) System, Video Recording System, Intercom System, Public Address System, Fiber Optic Communications Network, and Asset Tracking System.
Responsibilities- Use diagnostic equipment/software and established troubleshooting techniques to isolate network deficiencies, equipment failures and operational anomalies.
- Read and adhere to blueprints and design plans for the installation of sub-level devices (e.g., patch panels, junction boxes) on large or complex jobs and head end equipment on small or less complex jobs.
- Read and understanding component level schematic diagrams for systems, equipment and devices.
- Identify appropriate cables from drawings and running cables/fiber per installation design plans.
- Repair and maintain electronic security system equipment.
- Test continuity of conductor(s) or breaks in fiber.
- Terminate basic connections such as butt splices, insulated connectors, terminal strips/blocks and BNC connectors.
- Mount and terminate field devices (e.g., Readers, Door Contacts, REXs, Cameras)
- Install and terminate sub-level devices (e.g., patch panels, junction boxes) on large or complex jobs and head end equipment on small or less complex jobs to include power and proper grounding.
- Terminate and test voice and data connections.
- Perform field verification testing.
- Understand the infrastructure relationships between trades.
- Other duties as assigned.
- At least eight years’ experience in non-residential electronics installation & troubleshooting is required with a high school degree;
Or - At least six years’ experience coupled with Graduation from the US Navy or Air Force Electronics Training Program with a minimum of 720 classroom hours or Graduation from an Accredited Electronic Apprentice Program with a high school degree:
Or - At least four years’ experience with an AA/AS in Electronics from an accredited program;
Or - At least two years’ experience with a BS/BA in Electronics from an accredited program. List of qualifications which include education/experience/certifications/clearances (quantifiable)
- LENEL OnGuard 7.3 access control certification required.
- At least two active certifications from the following OEM list:
Morpho Detection Itemizer;
Smiths Detection X-Ray Hiscan; CEIA Walk-Through Metal Detectors;
Delta & Koei Vehicle Barrier;
Panasonic Analog CCTV Systems; IP CCTV Systems;
Path minder Turnstiles; or equivalent OEM certifications. - OSHA 10 Training required.
- New employees who are hired will be required to have a favorable BPRP certification review outcome.
Skills and Abilities
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Must be proficient with Test Equipment (i.e. TDR, OTDR)
- Must have skill level III Hand Tools (a complete list of required tools will be provided)

- The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
- During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
Estimated Salary/Wage: Up to USD $38.00/Hr.
