Job Summary
The Physical Plant Department invites applications for a full‑time, nonexempt position performing electrical work at the journeyman level under general supervision. The role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment, and all work must comply with applicable electrical codes and safety regulations.

Responsibilities- Installs, diagnoses problems, and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and components of industrial machinery following code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and specifications.
- Reads and interprets plans, blueprints, and specifications for construction or remodeling and may recommend appropriate modifications or additions.
- Connects and repairs power supply wires to machines and equipment, and the cables and wires between them.
- Performs maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment including fluorescent and incandescent units, lighting fixtures, wiring, conduit boxes, tubing, switches, motors, generators, and climate control systems; prepares time, labor, and material estimates.
- Prepares daily reports of operations and project status; operates and maintains tools and equipment of the trade; cleans the work area upon project completion.
- Provides guidance and training to maintenance personnel and may have leading responsibility for special projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Comprehensive knowledge and skill in installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems under 13,000volts.
- Proficient in basic mathematics (area, volume, weights, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions).
- Skilled in using and maintaining trade tools and test equipment such as ohmeters, oscilloscopes, batteries, and buzzers.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, electrical codes, and Underwriters Rules for wiring and installation.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Ability to prepare essential summaries and reports.
- Capacity to work in or around fixed equipment and machinery, from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding, and to manipulate heavy tools and supplies up to 70lbs.
- Ability to work in hazardous environments, confined spaces, adverse weather conditions, or extreme temperatures while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Four years of progressively responsible experience in the electrical trade.
- Must communicate effectively and follow directions.
- Valid Maryland non‑commercial Class
C or equivalent driver’s license may be required. - Possession of a Maryland State licensed electrician certification may be required.
- Medical inquiries and/or examinations may be conducted to determine job suitability.
- Bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and heavy lifting may be required.
- Work in adverse weather conditions may be required.
- Usage of personal protective equipment may be required.
- Operation of various office equipment may be required.
