Plumber (Skilled Trade Specialist II)
LocationBWI Marshall Airport, Anne Arundel County, MD
Responsibilities- Installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing and natural gas equipment, piping, valves, and fittings in compliance with the Maryland State and International Plumbing Codes
- Installing valves and piping from ’A” to 12” and repairing showers, lavatories, water closets, faucets, and urinals
- Fitting copper pipes and fittings using flux, solder, and brazing materials
- Using gases such as MAP and acetylene to fit and cut copper and steel pipes, and installing steel, water, and natural gas piping by using power threaders and groves to cut, thread, and groove the ends of the piping
- Troubleshooting and repairing sewage ejector pumps, motors, and controls
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from a high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing. Two years of this experience must include service and repair of plumbing hardware such as faucets, water heaters, utility sinks, ejector pumps, grease interceptors, troubleshooting leaks, and using drain clearing machinery.

Certification and LicensingApplicants must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland. Some duties may require a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Employees must also obtain an Airfield Operators Permit per MDOT regulations and will undergo a comprehensive security background check.
Essential EmployeeEmployees in this class are considered essential and are subject to emergency call‑back procedures twenty‑four hours a day to maintain continuous facility operation. Rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
Work ConditionsThis maintenance work requires physical exertion performed outdoors in all weather conditions or indoors in MDOT MAA buildings. Operators may need to lift objects weighing over 50 pounds, work on high poles or other elevated locations, and operate in cramped quarters or underground settings.
