- Comprehensive knowledge of basic engineering principles/methods and techniques of the trade, and skill in OSHA/MOSH regulations related to the trade area.
- Thorough knowledge of practical application of electronics, hydraulics and mechanics used in maintenance work; and of basic mathematics including area, volume, weights and application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions.
- Skill in the care and storage of equipment and supplies; in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment; and in reading, interpreting and working from blueprints, schematics, drawings and specifications.
- Ability to communicate effectively; orally, in writing and by computer.
- Experience supervising apprentices and less‑skilled workers on a project‑to‑project basis; planning and organizing maintenance work; determining sufficiency of cost estimates prepared by others; preparing specifications for tools, equipment, materials and supplies; and preparing summaries and reports.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Six years of progressively responsible experience in pipe and installation services including all underground utilities (water, gas, sanitary lines and/or steam), vents, HVAC and related equipment.
Incumbents hired for plumbing trade duties must possess a current WSSC Master Plumber's License or a Maryland State Master Plumber's License.
Conditions of Employment- Essential employee, subject to a 24 hour, 7 day week span of operation.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Must be able to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; from lifts, ladders and scaffolding; manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; manipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery concurrently; work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions; wear and work in personal protective equipment.
- Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job.
