Job Summary
Equipment Operator to run Excavator and Loader for heavy industrial construction projects in Alexandria, VA.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Checks all fluids before starting engine.
- Works as needed on pipe/utility crews, including working safely inside trench boxes.
- Works as needed on heavy highway and bridge projects, moving or placing materials.
- Receives written or oral instructions from supervisor.
- Performs routine maintenance such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.
- Observes and understands markings on ground, hand signals, or grade stakes.
- Operates equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- When operator work is not available, assists crews by performing other duties as requested.
- Prior experience in position required.
- Experience must be commensurate with project requirements, will vary by project.
- Minimum five years of related experience and/or training.
- Certified or approved by Safety Department or competent person.
- Must pass practical test.
Expected base pay range: $26.00/hr – $39.00/hr compensation range reflects factors such as education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Salary range excludes potential incentive pay or benefits, which will be provided separately when appropriate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe job requires climbing into and operating heavy equipment, requiring upper body strength and agility. Responsibilities include climbing steps to reach cab mounts, operating hand and foot controls, and lifting up to 40 pounds. The role also involves sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, and possibly crawling. The position demands close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORKENVIRONMENT
Work is performed on construction sites with exposure to moving mechanical parts, weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock risk, and loud noise. Sites may be isolated or high traffic areas.
