Responsibilities
The role requires heavy physical duties involved with asphalt milling and paving, including shoveling, raking, lutting, jack hammering, heavy lifting, and the use of multiple small tools. Duties vary depending on crew assignment; a laborer can become a specialist such as Screed Person, Lute Person, QC Tech, Side Person (mill), Tack Truck Driver, Water Truck Driver, or Utility adjustment person.
Night and weekend shifts, and overnight stays may be required. Work is typically performed during the normal milling and paving season.
- Perform duties involving shoveling, raking, lutting, jack hammering, heavy lifting, and tools involved with asphalt milling and paving.
- Clean tools, materials, and work areas.
- Execute a wide variety of manual tasks involving fine motor skills and eye‑hand coordination.
- Carry out all tasks safely with respect for individual and crew safety.
- Communicate clearly with crew members to ensure safety, teamwork, and completion of daily goals set by the field manager.
- Meet laborer crew specialty requirements such as hand and power tool use, grade checks, jack hammering, equipment operation, cuts and fills, etc.
Compliance with all company policies, including Safety, “Home Safe Tonight,” and “AIPS.”
Physical Demands- Requires extensive and heavy physical activity, dexterity, and fine motor skills.
- Must carry very heavy loads up to 75 lbs.
- Must work in all weather elements.
- Requires ability to stand, walk, reach, kneel, climb, or balance.
- Requires specific vision: close, color, peripheral.
- Responsible for safety of self and fellow workers.
- Work conditions vary by site and weather.
- Rough graded and undeveloped sites pose safety threats.
- Occasionally work in tight confined spaces such as manholes and inlets.
- Work around heavy equipment, loud noises, and vibrations of equipment and power tools.
- Work adjacent to live traffic most days.
$22.00 - $24.00, based on experience.

Qualifications- GED / HS Diploma is a plus.
- Trade School is a plus.
- Penndot Paving QC Technical experience is a plus.
- Top Con or similar grade control experience is a plus.
- CDL (A, B, Tanker, Hazmat) is a plus.
- Tack Truck experience is a plus.
- 2 years of related work experience is a necessity.
- Active, valid driver’s license required.
- Good Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) required.
