Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician III – Office of Fleet Maintenance, BWI Marshall Airport
The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) is the owner and operator of BWI Thurgood Marshall and Martin State Airports, serving over 27 million passengers annually. The MAA is currently accepting applications for the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician III position in the Office of Fleet Maintenance at BWI Marshall Airport.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance inspections.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair major malfunctions on motor vehicles and motor equipment.
- Perform standard preventive maintenance services such as changing oil, fueling, cleaning, or greasing parts.
- Assist in snow removal procedures on airport runways and taxiways.
- Road-test vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
This is an emergency essential position. Employees must be available to work during weather, operational, and/or disaster emergency conditions and be available for any shift in a 24-hour facility.
QualificationsEducation: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Applicants may substitute relevant experience for this requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Experience: Four years of experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment. Two years of that experience must include servicing and repairing heavy-duty construction equipment and diesel engines.
Substitutions: Additional documented experience repairing, servicing, and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment; completion of an accredited heavy equipment or diesel repair training program; U.S. Armed Forces military service experience; certifications as an ASE Technician or Master Technician.
Licenses & Certifications- Class C motor vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland.
- Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) valid in Maryland during the probationary period, depending on equipment operated.
- Optional special endorsements for Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicles as required.
- Second-level certification in the employing administration’s program before application; certification for Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician III as required for promotion or transfer.
- MAA Airfield Operators Permit prior to permanent appointment.
- Possible certification in Air Conditioning Recycling and Recovery during probation.
- Commercial Vehicle Inspector’s License if performing that role.
