This position will cover Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland. Office is located in Hunts Valley, MD.
Key Responsibilities Of An Elevator Mechanic- Installing new elevators, including assembling components like cables, control systems, and doors.
- Performing routine inspections and maintenance to ensure equipment operates reliably and safely.
- Diagnosing and repairing faults in elevator systems which may involve mechanical, electrical, or electronic issues.
- Modernizing and upgrading older elevator systems to meet current safety standards and technological advancements.
- Responding to emergency breakdowns and resolving issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Consulting blueprints and manufacturer instructions to correctly install new elevator systems.
- Testing newly installed equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety regulations.
- Conducting regular maintenance, such as lubricating moving parts and replacing worn components.
- Keeping detailed records of maintenance work, system performance, and repairs.
- Communicating effectively with clients, building managers, and team members regarding the status of the elevator systems.
- Completing an apprenticeship program, which combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction and typically lasts four to five years.
- Gaining certification or licensure, which is required in many states and jurisdictions and involves passing an examination that tests knowledge of local codes, safety regulations, and elevator technologies.
- Continuing education to keep up with technological advancements and changes in safety standards and codes.
Elevator mechanics must be prepared to work in various settings, at heights, and often in confined spaces. This career requires technical skills, problem‑solving abilities, and attention to detail.
