Carpenter – Naval Air Station Patuxent River
Competition wages and an allowance for insurance and 401(k) are offered.
Salary- $40.66/hr

- Plan and lay out work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions.
- Design, construct, remodel, retrofit, and repair interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete or brick.
- Design, construct, retrofit, and repair cabinets, tables, shelves, benches, partitions, flooring, door and window frames.
- Install, repair, and maintain building roofs.
- Repair and replace metal doors, door closers, door sweeps, weather stripping, peep holes, etc.
- Handle vinyl siding, metal siding, gutters and downspouts, shingles, flat roof repair, VCT tile, ceramic tile and grout.
- Concrete replacement and repair.
- Perform drywall repairs, including mudding, sanding and painting of walls.
- Use and maintain a variety of carpenter's hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments.
- Select materials necessary for the work.
- Respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
- Clean, maintain, adjust, calibrate and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
- Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
- Estimate cost, time and materials for carpentry projects.
- Research, purchase and inventory equipment parts, chemicals and supplies.
- Participate in the maintenance and operation of the structural shop.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry in commercial/industrial settings, including applicable building and safety code requirements and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment.
- Knowledge of building architectural/structural elements including alterations and repairs.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Adaptable and flexible in work situations.
- Prioritizes tasks to ensure completion in a timely manner.
- Practices workplace safety in the use of tools, equipment and supplies, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years’ experience in the carpentry trade.
- Valid driver's license compliant with REAL or willingness and ability to obtain one.
- Pass a pre‑employment drug screening and background check.
- Regular, dependable attendance.
- U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking and walking.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting or stooping.
- Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.
- Lifting and adjusting heavy objects, contact with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment.
- Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions.
