Overview
This position is located at the Dundalk Marine Terminal, part of the Maryland Port Administration (MPA) – a 203‑employee division of MDOT focused on maritime transportation.
GeneralRole Description
MPA is seeking a motivated, positive, and driven Maintenance High Voltage Crane Electrician to join the MPA Facility Maintenance/Operations Division. The primary responsibility is to maintain, install, and repair electrical infrastructure throughout all MDOT‑MPA marine terminals, including troubleshooting and correcting issues with power feeders, panels, lighting, and high‑voltage equipment up to 13,200 volts. Compliance with OSHA standards and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are required.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose, locate, and repair power disruption problems reported by MPA Operations or tenants involving voltages up to 13,200 volts.
- Install, modify, maintain, test, clean, dismantle, and remove underground and overhead high‑voltage distribution circuits, lines/feeders, and equipment up to 13,000 volts.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all power distribution equipment including substations, switch gear, transformers, breaker panels, power consumption meters, crane slip rings, vacuum breaks, contractors, and switches.
- Conduct corrective maintenance by adding or modifying existing electrical wiring systems for high‑mast lighting, navigational lighting, range lights, traffic and sign lights, cruise terminal passenger bridge, and related equipment.
- Report directly to the MPA Foreman Maintenance/Electrical.
- Respond to essential employee duties and may be called 24 hours a day as needed to maintain continuous operation of the facility.
- High school graduation or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Five (5) years of experience in an industrial or commercial setting performing journeyman electrical work, including at least two (2) years with motors and control circuitry and one (1) year in electronics.
- Two (2) years of experience working with high‑voltage (at least 13,000 volts) electrical service, switch gear, and control wiring in an industrial or commercial setting.
- Substitutions for education or apprenticeship experience are acceptable as outlined in the original description.
- Must possess a current Maryland Master Electrician’s license (or obtain it during the probationary period).
- Must hold a valid Class C motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland; a Class B Commercial Driver’s License is required during the probationary period.
