Automotive Technician, Automotive Mechanic
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for an Automotive Technician 3 rd Class in our Hughesville location. The primary functions of this position will be to provide efficient and reliable service in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and related equipment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing preventative maintenance on vehicles and related equipment; reporting to supervisor equipment in need of major repair;
keeping accurate maintenance records; learning to perform fabrication, acetylene welding and electric welding to make minor repairs; assisting and learning to diagnose and repair electronic systems and automotive and diesel engines. Learns to perform electronic repairs on antilock brakes, air bag and emission systems. Also learns to utilize specialized electronic testing equipment, including web‑based and laptop standalone test equipment for diagnoses;
learn to utilize complex wiring diagrams to diagnose operating faults in wire harness and computer controls. This position pays $33.37/hr.
We are seeking a candidate who is reliable, teachable, and detail oriented. Candidates should also be adaptable, engaged, and have good teamwork skills.
This position requires reading, writing and mathematics; therefore, a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
At least one year of experience as a Shop Attendant, or the equivalent experience in automotive maintenance and/or vocational training.
Must hold a valid Maryland Learners permit for a Class A Commercial Driver’s License or above, with a good driving record and obtain a regular Class A CDL within six months. Must hold a current Department of Transportation Medical Examiners Certificate.
