BWI Marshall Airport, Anne Arundel County, MD

Responsibilities
  • Supervises the maintenance and repairs of electrical systems along with subordinate workers and contractors.
  • Requires a journeyman level of high‑voltage electrical skills with knowledge to repair, maintain, and/or replace electrical equipment and apparatus rated up to, including 33,000 volts; as is required of those that they will be overseeing.
  • Maintains written records, and prepares and submits reports related to property inspections, preventive maintenance, and equipment inspections.
  • Employees are designated “Emergency Essential” in the event of airport emergencies, weather emergencies, or irregularities and are subject to extended shifts and being on‑call during scheduled off‑hours, holidays, and weekends.
  • Required to maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call‑back requirements.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience:

    Three years of experience working with high‑voltage (600 volts and up) service switch gear and control wiring or large (30 horsepower or more) motors, compressors, and motor circuitry. One year of this experience must have been in a commercial or industrial setting.
  • Additional work experience performing high‑voltage electrical work may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.
  • A certificate from a vocational‑technical school or community college with a major in the electrical trade may be substituted for one year of the required general experience.
  • Candidates may substitute equivalent U.S. Armed Forces military service experience for civilian experience cited above.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license in the State of Maryland.
  • During the probationary period, required to obtain and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in Maryland.
  • Must have or obtain an Airfield Operators Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations , Control of Vehicular Traffic on the Air Operations Area, prior to permanent appointment.
Additional Information
  • Candidates are subject to an extensive pre‑employment security background check in accordance with FAA Federal Aviation Regulation Part 107.
  • Candidates will be subject to pre‑employment drug testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11.
  • Candidates may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance work on high structures and in cramped quarters.
  • Employees may be subject to emergency recall 24 hours a day and are required to maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call‑back requirements.
  • Employees in this classification are considered “Essential Employees” and shall sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to “Essential Employee” status. Employees are responsible for transportation to and from the jobsite.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11 and may be subject to periodic and/or post‑accident drug/alcohol testing in accordance with State regulations.
