Job Information

Non‑exempt; full‑time; 40 hours per week;
Monday – Friday; 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; full‑benefits. This technical position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment throughout the Division of Solid Waste & Recycling. Supervision is from the Landfill Operations Supervisor, Deputy Director and Division Director.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor building and project budgets, assist with department budget process
  • Prepare and assist with price proposals (RFPs or IFBs) for procurement of materials and services
  • Provide cost estimates for repairs, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of mechanical systems in compliance with OSHA and MOSH safety guidelines
  • Work with, monitor and supervise outside contractors as necessary
  • Inspect jobs and estimate materials needed; coordinate building projects around various schedules
  • Apply for building permits and coordinate inspections when required
  • Perform work per the Preventive Maintenance Program; develop and modify preventive maintenance programs for mechanical equipment
  • Respond to maintenance and construction issues, inspect, repair and certify building mechanical systems
  • Drive County vehicle to worksites as needed; perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum 5 years experience for Maintenance Technician III; 7 years for Senior Maintenance Technician
  • Maryland State Journeyman license (or Master license for Senior)
  • Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical trade installation, repair, materials, tools, and equipment
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal building codes, IBC, NFPA, and construction practices
  • Working knowledge of materials and methods for repair, maintenance and installation of mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety measures in the mechanical trade field
  • Proficient in specialized construction and procurement software applications
  • Ability to accurately diagnose mechanical problems and perform appropriate repairs
  • Effective reading and interpretation of plans and specifications; estimating materials costs and labor hours
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and communication skills; effective working relationships with co‑workers, contractors, upper management, officials and public
Preferences
  • Experience using Microsoft 365
  • State of Maryland HVAC license
Physical Requirements
  • Walk frequently; lift up to 20 lbs; drive; climb, stoop, crawl; lift 20‑50 lbs; lift over 50 lbs; push/pull up to >40 lbs
  • Work indoors/outdoors; uneven ground; extremes of temperature; dust, noise, heights; machinery; chemicals; confined spaces, below ground
Other Requirements
  • Non‑essential classification; available for varied hours and on‑call emergency situations
  • Maintain all licenses throughout employment; on file with County and City for permits
