Position Summary

Advantage Technology is seeking an experienced Low-Voltage Access Control Technician to join our growing field team in the Frederick, Maryland area.

This position is focused on commercial low-voltage security work, including access control systems, Verkada cameras, door hardware integration, card readers, electric strikes, maglocks, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, motion sensors, intercoms, and related cabling.

We already have structured cabling crews in place, but we are looking to build another field crew closer to Frederick with stronger experience in access control and door-related installations
. The right candidate should be comfortable working in commercial buildings, schools, offices, healthcare facilities, warehouses, and other customer environments.

This is a hands‑on field position for someone who understands that access control is more than pulling cable. We need someone who can install cleanly, work around doors and frames, coordinate with locksmiths or door hardware vendors when needed, troubleshoot field issues, and make sure systems are tested and ready for customer use.

Key Responsibilities Access Control & Door Hardware Installation
  • Install access control cabling, card readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, motion sensors, push buttons, and related low‑voltage devices.
  • Install and assist with electric strikes, maglocks, electrified hardware, power supplies, door controllers, and access control panels.
  • Work with commercial doors, frames, mullions, hardware locations, and pathways.
  • Understand basic door operation and how access control hardware impacts life safety, egress, and secure entry.
  • Assist with layout, mounting, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting of door access systems.
  • Coordinate with locksmiths, door hardware vendors, electricians, general contractors, and internal project managers when needed.
  • Install Verkada cameras, access control hardware, sensors, intercoms, and cloud‑managed security devices.
  • Mount cameras and security devices cleanly and securely in commercial environments.
  • Assist with camera aiming, device testing, basic configuration support, and final walkthroughs.
  • Install cabling and hardware for IP cameras, access control doors, intercoms, alarms, and other security‑related systems.
  • Understand basic network requirements for PoE devices, IP cameras, cloud‑managed access control, and door controllers.
Low-Voltage Cabling & Field Work
  • Pull, route, terminate, test, label, and dress low‑voltage cabling for access control, cameras, and security systems.
  • Install J‑hooks, raceway, conduit, sleeves, support pathways, boxes, brackets, and device backboxes.
  • Work above ceilings, on ladders, lifts, walls, door frames, and commercial jobsites.
  • Keep wiring clean, supported, labeled, and documented.
  • Troubleshoot cable paths, failed devices, power issues, door hardware issues, and connectivity problems.
Jobsite Execution & Documentation
  • Work independently or as part of a small crew on commercial installation projects.
  • Review scopes of work, floor plans, door schedules, hardware locations, and project notes.
  • Communicate with project managers, customers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Identify missing materials, installation conflicts, change‑order needs, and project risks.
  • Label devices, doors, cables, panels, and controllers accurately.
  • Complete photos, closeout notes, punch‑list items, and documentation before leaving the jobsite.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of low-voltage, access control, security, door hardware, camera, telecom, or structured cabling experience.
  • Experience installing access control devices such as card readers, door contacts, REX devices, electric strikes, maglocks, power supplies, and door controllers.
  • Experience working with commercial doors, frames, and access control hardware locations.
  • Ability to pull, terminate, test, label, and dress low‑voltage cabling.
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, ceilings, walls, door frames, and commercial jobsites.
  • Ability to read basic floor plans, scopes of work, door schedules, and project notes.
