Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Title
Non-exempt (compensatory and/or overtime eligible; additional compensation to include tool allowance); full-time; 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m.
- 3:30 p.m.; full benefits
This skilled position is responsible for the complex repair, adjustment and maintenance of trucks, heavy equipment and other equipment (large and small) used by the Division of Solid Waste and Recycling (DSWR). Supervision is received from the Landfill Supervisor through the Division Director.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience in heavy equipment operation and repair or a related field
- Possession of a valid driver's license
A successful incumbent operating in this role displays the following:
- Advanced knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods and techniques utilized in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment
- Advanced knowledge of potential hazards associated with this type of work and appropriate safety precautions
- Knowledge of equipment and components in order to identify, inspect, and repair them
- Knowledge of landscaping and snow removal equipment
- Skill in repairing equipment and materials
- Skill in welding and metal fabrication using both stick and MIG welders
- Skill in purchasing and maintaining a budget
- Effective written and spoken (English) communication skills, including the ability to understand and follow spoken and written instructions and to accurately complete documentation of work performed
- Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
- Ability to obtain and maintain required licenses
- Ability to operate all Division equipment in order to diagnose issues and make repairs
