School Bus Driver
Drive a bus for Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) and earn great pay plus the best benefit package – includes health, dental and vision, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and flexible schedules that work great for everyone, including college students, veterans, and others. Driving for FCPS is a fantastic second or third career and a good move for over‑the‑road drivers who want to be home.
- Drive children safely to and from the various schools on regular routes and school‑sponsored field trips.
- Follow the route description as it is written.
- Maintain the discipline of the students.
- Submit required forms by the due date.
- Use and maintain the FCPS email account.
- Keep the bus clean, in good mechanical condition, and perform preventive maintenance.
- Attend all in‑service training meetings as required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and write, as demonstrated by successfully passing the FCPS pre‑service instructional training course.
- No more than two current points on the driving record and a satisfactory past driving record, as determined by the Director of Transportation.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Five years of driving experience, during which time you held a valid driver’s license.
- Meet all Motor Vehicle Licensing requirements for a commercial driver’s licence (CDL) with a passenger endorsement.
- Satisfactorily pass the appropriate medical examination for school vehicle drivers as stated in COMAR.
- Receive a negative controlled‑substance test as required under COMAR.
- Satisfactorily pass the appropriate medical examinations for school vehicle drivers prior to each anniversary date.
- Maintain a driving record in accordance with COMAR.
- Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
