Part Time Parks Gardener
Under the administrative direction of the Parks Maintenance Superintendent, this part‑time position performs a variety of skilled and semi‑skilled maintenance duties and operates a range of equipment in the upkeep of City‑owned parks, open spaces, recreational areas, and facilities, including those located on Main Street. The primary area of responsibility is the Marktplatz gardens. The position requires demonstrated knowledge of plant selection and care, including appropriate planting times, sun and shade requirements, and seasonal pruning practices.
The employee must be able to independently select plants that complement and maintain the existing landscape design, including established ornamentals and roses, while preserving the character of the Market Square Gardens. This position is scheduled to work 20 to 29 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with flexibility required based on events and operational needs. Starting pay is $20/hour.
Responsibilities include maintaining the Marktplatz gardens, operating maintenance equipment, and ensuring plant health and aesthetics. The role may also involve assisting with event‑related landscaping tasks and collaborating with the Parks Maintenance team.
Qualifications include: a self‑starter with strong knowledge of native and ornamental plants; the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; demonstrated leadership skills; and a commitment to preserving the character of the City’s public spaces.
