Job Summary /Basic Functions

The STARS center is currently seeking SEVEN (7) hardworking, organized, and self-sufficient individuals for the ‘STARS Ambassadors’ position. STARS Ambassadors are students who represent the STARS Center, often serving as a bridge between the university and prospective students, current students, and the broader community at different events. This role involves engaging with diverse audiences, sharing your personal experiences, and providing valuable insights about campus life.

KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications
  • 1. Promote STARS by giving tours, attending open houses, serving on panels, or speaking at events to share their positive experiences and provide information about the center and our program.
  • 2. Assist with events by helping to organize and execute large scale events such as the cultural graduation and the Alpha, Alpha, Alpha induction ceremony in the Spring.
  • 3. Support new students by mentoring and answering questions they might have.
  • 4. Serve as liaisons by acting as the communication link between students and the community, providing feedback and helping to address concerns.
  • 5. Contribute to the STARS social media and marketing by sharing experiences, posting updates, and engaging with followers.
  • 6. Attend a weekly meeting to discuss upcoming tasks and delegation of assignments.
  • 7. Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned by STARS administrators.
Required Experience:
  • 1. The ability to interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • 2. High level of attention to detail in all tasks.
  • 3. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (i.e., verbal and written).
  • 4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • 5. Handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • 6. Reliable, punctual, and committed to completed assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • 7. (Preferred not required) Proficient knowledge and experience with graphic and creative design (e.g., making flyers and decorating bulletin boards)

Must be a current student enrolled at UMW with a minimum cumulative GPA of a 2.5

Additional Considerations:

Flexibility to assist with occasional evening and weekend programs is preferred.
