Location: Fredericksburg, VA (Must reside within daily commuting distance)
Travel: 50%+ domestic and international travel required
Position Summary
Fredericksburg, VA, based company seeking an experienced construction professional to support shielding installations on commercial construction projects. This role combines field site supervision with CADD drafting and coordination responsibilities. Shielding experience is a plus but not required. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional who enjoys both office-based technical work and hands-on field operations, with significant travel opportunities.
The position reports to Operations Management and coordinates closely with Engineering, Operations, Warehouse Manager, clients, and project personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Site Supervision & Project Management
- Supervise union and non-union personnel on shielding installations.
- Run and oversee shielding installations on commercial construction sites.
- Understand and interpret architectural, MEP, and engineering drawings in the field.
- Plan and lay out materials using appropriate measuring and marking equipment.
- Utilize carpentry skills for layout and quantity verification.
- Coordinate mobilization of materials and supplies to project job sites.
- Verify material quantities and perform inventory of all materials shipped to job sites.
- Obtain and maintain required material certifications.
- Track and submit change orders.
- Estimate monthly job completion costs and change orders to ensure timely invoicing.
- Maintain safe work procedures, equipment, and jobsite security.
- Conduct site visits for QA/QC when requested by project lead.
- Clearly communicate construction processes, directions, and expectations to laborers and clients.
- Perform additional project duties as required to ensure quality and customer satisfaction.
CADD & BIM Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and interpret CADD shop drawings for shielding projects.
- Develop and coordinate BIM drawings with general contractors and engineering teams.
- Collaborate with Engineering for design assistance and technical support.
- Deliver finalized shop drawings to Operations Supervisor.
- Organize and prioritize multiple drawing deliverables.
- Expand and adapt to new CADD software applications as adopted by the company.
Construction & Fabrication Support
- Assist with fabrication of shielding components for installation.
- Design and help fabricate shielding components as needed.
- Assist Warehouse Manager with fabrication, packing, and stocking gang boxes.
- Transport materials and tools to job sites when required.
- Test basic shielding systems; record and present test meter data to engineers.
Software & Technical Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with CADD and BIM software.
- Familiarity with project management tools and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction Certification required.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing required.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- PMP certification or equivalent may substitute for degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of construction experience required.
- Experience supervising construction personnel preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong math, reasoning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in both office and field environments.
Physical Demands
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, co-workers, and clients.
- Extended periods of standing or sitting.
- Frequent use of computer, phone, measuring devices, and office equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 90 lbs. occasionally.
- Good manual dexterity and vision for reviewing drawings and performing measurements.
Work Environment
- Work performed in office, warehouse, and active construction site environments.
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, dirt, and other construction-related conditions.
- Required use of PPE including hard hat, gloves, protective clothing, and safety glasses as needed.
- Travel required at 50% or greater capacity, including domestic and international assignments.
