The Special Projects Estimator will be responsible for providing complete estimates for bids on projects assigned by the Estimating Manager. These projects are usually smaller commercial construction jobs involving HVAC, commercial HVAC, and sheet metal.

• Responsible for the complete assembly of all estimates on projects assigned, from plans and specs issuance to bid day, with a majority focus on HVAC.
• Solicit subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure coverage on all scopes of work.
• Review all construction documents, including instructions to bidders, scope of work, and general conditions.
• Distribute plans, specifications, and addenda to subcontractors and vendors via company FTP website or email.
• Assist in the development of bid strategies.
• Participate in pre‑bid meetings and site visits, which may require travel.
• Prepare detailed estimates by reviewing take‑offs and pricing for completeness on all self‑performed work.
• Review subcontractor and vendor quotations in detail for full compliance with plans and specifications.
• Develop rough draft scope of work for proposals.
• Assist in negotiating subcontracts and procurement of materials and equipment.
• Enter estimate into job cost control program and participate in turnover/transition meetings with the operations team.
• Provide budgets, estimates, construction schedules, and manpower projections.
• Work as part of a team and coordinate scope of work between in‑house trades.
• Be a self‑starter able to multi‑task, work with minimal supervision, and demonstrate problem‑solving skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 2+ years of trades estimating experience in commercial and/or industrial construction projects or equivalent education and experience.
• 1+ year of estimating/pre‑construction experience; strong knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in computer‑based estimating software (e.g., Autobid, Quote Soft, TSI, Estimation).
• Advanced knowledge of the assigned discipline, estimating techniques, and cost control, with ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
• Understanding of construction assemblies.
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to meet critical deadlines.
• Adherence to all company policy and procedures.
• Availability to work assigned schedules.

• Professional office environment, using standard office equipment.
• Visits to construction and industrial work sites.

• Use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
• Site visits involve walking through existing buildings, industrial plants, and ongoing construction sites, including stairs and ladders on multiple floors.

• May require infrequent travel (typically not overnight).

• AAS or BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
• Prior military experience.
