Field Superintendent

Halsey Home Corporation – Part‑time contract, Fredericksburg, VA.

Halsey Homes is a boutique custom home builder and building contractor based in Fredericksburg, Virginia. We serve clients across Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, Orange, King George, and Culpeper counties, specializing in custom homes, additions, historic renovations, and outbuildings. Our work is guided by a commitment to craftsmanship, transparent process, and the kind of personal attention that volume builders simply cannot offer.

We are a small, growing team. Every person we bring on represents the standard we hold ourselves to. The Field Superintendent is central to that standard.

About the Job

The Field Superintendent is responsible for daily on‑site oversight of all active construction projects. This role ensures that work is completed on schedule, within scope, and to the quality standards that define the Halsey Homes experience. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader who communicates clearly, solves problems proactively, and takes genuine pride in the quality of what gets built.

This is a field‑first role. You will be the primary on‑site point of accountability for subcontractors, materials, inspections, and workmanship. You will work closely with ownership and the operations team to ensure every project runs cleanly from foundation to final walkthrough.

Responsibilities

Site Management

  • Oversee daily site operations across all active projects, maintaining a clean, safe, and organized jobsite at all times.
  • Manage subcontractor schedules, coordinate sequencing, and hold subs accountable to scope, quality, and timeline.
  • Conduct regular site walks and quality control checks throughout each phase of construction.
  • Identify and resolve field issues before they escalate, communicating decisions and impacts promptly to ownership.

Scheduling and Coordination

  • Maintain the project schedule in coordination with the project management team, flagging delays or risks as they arise.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, inspections, and subcontractor arrivals to minimize downtime and keep projects moving.
  • Ensure all required inspections are scheduled and passed in accordance with local jurisdictional requirements across the company’s service area.

Quality Control

  • Enforce Halsey Homes’ quality standards across all trades, including framing, mechanical rough‑ins, finishes, and final details.
  • Review work against approved plans and specifications, correcting deviations before they become costly.
  • Document completed work with photos and notes in the project management system (Job Tread).

Client and Team Communication

  • Represent Halsey Homes professionally on the jobsite in all client‑facing interactions.
  • Keep the operations and project management team informed of site progress, material needs, and any scope questions.
  • Participate in project handoff meetings, pre‑construction walkthroughs, and punch‑list reviews as needed.

Safety and Compliance

  • Maintain a safe work environment and enforce OSHA standards and site safety protocols at all times.
  • Ensure permits are posted and accessible, and that all work is performed within the scope of active permits.
  • Remain current on building codes applicable to the jurisdictions Halsey Homes serves.
Requirements

Required

  • 5 or more years of experience in residential construction, with at least 2 years in a superintendent, foreman, or lead field role.
  • Strong working knowledge of residential construction sequencing, framing, mechanical systems, and finish work.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors and hold them accountable to schedule and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with building codes and inspection processes in Virginia jurisdictions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency with basic project documentation, including photos, punch lists, and progress updates.
Nice to Have
