Job DescriptionThe Interim Teacher position is an innovative and exciting role for aspiring teachers to gain hands‑on experience while in pursuit of their licensure. Interim Teachers fulfill all regular duties of a licensed teacher and participate in new teacher professional development activities while being supported by a seasoned SCPS mentor teacher who will encourage their growth and acclimation into the role.
This role is ideal for Paraeducators who want to advance their career, for aspiring Education professionals on the path to licensure, or for career‑switchers interested in learning more about the Teaching industry.
Essential Functions- Prepare and meet students for instruction in designated times and locations.
- Design coherent instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, the community, and curriculum goals.
- Plan instruction to achieve desired objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines; create instructional materials that align with state standards and meet the needs of all learners.
- Create and leverage a variety of assessment strategies and instruments to inform both short‑term and long‑range instructional decisions; administer formal assessments at the state and county level; document student learning gains; track student learning to demonstrate gains.
- Identify and communicate specific student performance expectations; evaluate students' progress; provide students with prompt, specific evaluative feedback; maintain appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
- Leverage appropriate materials, technology, and resources to promote the development of critical thinking, problem‑solving, and performance skills.
- Implement a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff; ensure adequate and safe supervision; manage classroom procedures to maximize academic learning time.
- Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful, continuous process of professional development; maintain licensure at the state and/or national level; keep materials, supplies, and skills up‑to‑date.

Education and ExperienceRequired
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university -OR- 60 course credits and currently enrolled in a teaching program
- One (1) year of experience working with children, ideally within a teaching, leadership, or mentorship role
- Actively enrolled in the coursework required to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
Preferred
- Prior work experience within a public school system, ideally Spotsylvania County Public Schools

SalarySalary: $49,408 to $52,153 Per Year
