Job Description
Germanna Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The college serves the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, Culpeper, King George, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania, and Stafford. Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline to students from a variety of academic backgrounds.
This position requires teaching English both in‐person and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours during the summer session. The teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment. The position is located in Virginia and the successful candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance or be willing to relocate to ensure consistent attendance.
Responsibilities- Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of Germanna Community College and the Virginia Community College System.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
Provide quality instruction by meeting assigned classes regularly; submit required academic records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.
Qualifications- Master’s Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in English.
- Ability to effectively teach in both classroom and online environments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to use instructional technology.
- Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools.
- Prior teaching experience.
- Work experience in the field.
- Experience with online teaching.
- Substantial, proven experience with innovative teaching and developing online courses in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments at a regionally accredited institution.
The position is located in Virginia. The candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance or be willing to relocate. Travel to all campus locations may be required.
Essential Requirements & Additional ResponsibilitiesMay be required to perform other duties as assigned, including assistance to the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
