Assistant Director of Admissions and Regional Recruiter

University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA is seeking an Assistant Director of Admissions and Regional Recruiter. The Assistant Director of Admissions and Regional Recruiter is responsible for overseeing regional admissions activities, focusing primarily on out-of-state markets in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia.

Working closely with the Director of First-Year Admission, the Assistant Director will craft and implement a comprehensive recruitment strategy aligned with both the Office of Admissions' enrollment objectives and the University's Strategic Plan. This strategy will encompass extensive regional travel, detailed conversion and yield plans, and the organization of region-specific events aimed at engaging students and other stakeholders throughout the admissions process.

The role involves engaging with high school counselors, students, and families to attract new out-of-state applicants and enrolling students as well as identifying and developing partnership opportunities for UMW with community-based organizations. Key responsibilities include recruiting prospective undergraduate students at high schools, college fairs, and similar regional events. This position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends to travel regionally, attend on campus admissions events, conduct application reviews, and provide counseling to prospective applicants and their families regarding academic programs and opportunities at the University of Mary Washington (UMW).

An effective Assistant Director will monitor and analyze recruitment efforts, compile data-driven reports to inform decision-making processes. This position is on a 10-month contract paid out over 12 months to allow for summers off between May 25-July 24. The Assistant Director will be on contract from July 25-May 24. Additionally, the Assistant Director must reside in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia or Florida within 60 miles of a major airport.

The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated individual capable of working independently and remotely, with a track record of achieving goals in previous roles. They should possess a proactive and customer service-oriented mindset, with excellent presentation and communication skills—both written and verbal—demonstrated through the ability to convey detailed information about UMW clearly and concisely. Moreover, the candidate should exhibit proficiency in managing multiple projects, effectively allocating time and resources.

They should have a proven ability to establish and nurture relationships with secondary schools and community leaders. Proficiency in technology and its application, coupled with strong administrative and operational skills, is essential. The candidate must be willing and able to travel extensively, including working nights and weekends as necessary, particularly during the peak recruitment season (6-8 weeks from September through November).

This role demands flexibility and adaptability to meet the demands of the recruitment schedule and engage with prospective students and stakeholders effectively.

Minimum of three years of admissions recruitment experience, at a higher educational institution in a similar capacity or equivalent experience.

Experience managing a recruitment territory for admissions travel and application review.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in a related field.

Must possess a valid Driver's License to operate a University/state owned or leased vehicle.

Ability to communicate in Spanish.

Master's degree from an accredited college/university in a related field.

Experience working in Slate.

Experience working in Banner or similar SIS.

Experience managing a territory as a regional recruiter.

Experience conducting detailed review of credentials/data and analytical decision-making.

Experience working with international students.
