Primary
Purpose:
Promote positive public relations between the school district and community. Prepare and provide information to the public about the activities, goals, and policies of the school district. Manage internal and external messaging, social media, content creation, and public relations. Provide efficient operation and management of a comprehensive Community Education plan. Handle confidential information and engage in frequent contact with all levels of district employees, outside agencies, and the public.
Qualifications:Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field

Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, parents, or the public
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district
Thorough knowledge of media relations and public relations functions
Community-based knowledge and knowledge of school district organization and operations
Experience:
3 years journalism or communications experience

Responsibilities and Duties:Public and Community Relations
Serve as the information liaison between the school district and the community. Serve as district spokesperson and coordinate media coverage including preparing press releases and publishing articles and photos in local media, and other publications. Maintain social media accounts and website, create flyers for use inside and outside of the District. Manage brand consistency.Ensure that public information activities contribute to the attainment of district goals and objectives.Design, prepare, and edit district publications including newsletters, recruitment brochures, programs for special events, and other publications.Develop and maintain an effective marketing plan for Community Education. Create all materials and distribute as needed.Recruit, interview, hire and orient instructors/volunteers for the scheduled Community Education classes and activities in accordance with district guidelines.Maintain scheduling and proper use of school facilities by Community Education students and instructors, including reserving the venue and preparing materials.Develop at least three sessions of Community Education courses per year based on needs and requests; pursue mini-sessions to meet unique short-term needs.Maintain the program budget and ensure that costs remain within allocated amounts.Host Community Ed Advisory Committee at least quarterly.Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.Serve as district representative on community committees as required. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs including speaking at civic organization meetings and make presentations.Policies, Reports, and Correspondence
Develop and publicize reports related to the performance of the district and articulate district goals and objectives.Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.Manage social media channels, monitor comments/reviews, and maintain website content for accuracy and engagement.Develop, write and edit content for websites, blogs, newsletters, and social media platforms (e.g., Linked In, Instagram, Facebook).Budget
Develop and administer the department budget based on documented needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
