Job Description

AIS is looking for a certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ToDHH) to join our team of independent contractors in Fredericksburg, Virginia. ToDHH are itinerant and work in person in local school divisions to provide quality services to students with hearing impairments.

The Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing functions as a member of a student’s educational team to provide a comprehensive assessment of the student’s strengths and weaknesses and to provide instruction on auditory skills and educational achievement in pre-school through school-age children.

The candidate must possess a working knowledge of:

  • assessment and instructional strategies,
  • evidence-based research in the field,
  • recommended best practices,
  • technologies and hearing assistive technologies available for individuals with hearing impairment, and
  • expected roles and responsibilities of a Teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing within a school environment.

The ToDHH will:

  • Utilize current evidence-based practices to assess and develop auditory skills, language development, and educational achievement.
  • Comply with special education services within federal state/county procedural guidelines.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of IEPs for those students identified as eligible for Hearing Impairment (HI) services.
  • Provide ethical and evidence-based treatment, guided by data collection, response to treatment, and ongoing analysis of developing academic skills as well as auditory and language skills.
  • Communicate and consult with students, parents, educators, administrators, and outside agency professionals.

Required

A Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in Hearing Impairment ora Virginia Provisional License to teach D/HH
