Systems Engineer
Amazon seeks a Data Center Controls Engineer to support critical infrastructure for its global retail and cloud businesses. In this role, you will design, program, and maintain control systems that monitor and manage power, cooling, and environmental conditions in large-scale data centers. You will troubleshoot PLC, SCADA, and BMS issues, respond to incidents, and collaborate with operations, facilities, and IT teams to ensure high uptime.
You will analyze performance data to improve reliability and energy efficiency, implement system upgrades within strict change management, and support commissioning of new infrastructure. Responsibilities
- Design, program, and maintain data center control systems for Amazon retail operations
- Troubleshoot and resolve controls and automation issues to ensure high availability
- Monitor environmental, power, and mechanical systems via SCADA/BMS platforms
- Coordinate with operations, facilities, and IT teams during incidents and maintenance
- Implement upgrades, patches, and configurations following change management processes
- Analyze system performance data to optimize reliability, safety, and energy efficiency
- Support commissioning, testing, and validation of new data center infrastructure
- Create and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, and operating procedures
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and security standards in all work
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to critical alerts as needed
Required Skills
- PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
- SCADA and BMS configuration and support
- Industrial networking and control protocols (Modbus, BACnet, OPC)
- Data center mechanical and electrical systems knowledge
- Scripting or automation (Python, Power
- Shell, or similar)
- Control system troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Reading and creating electrical and control diagrams
- Change management and incident response processes
- Monitoring and alerting tools for critical facilities
- Technical documentation and reporting
