What You’ll Do

As a Revenue Assessment Specialist, you will collaborate with the Commissioner of Revenue's Office to manage tax assessment functions. Work assignments may include:

Revenue Assessment Specialist I Responsibilities
  • Conduct various tax assessments, including business and personal property taxes, business license taxes, landlord and contractor license taxes, and excise taxes.
  • Learn and utilize designated revenue assessment software to process assessments.
  • Conduct assessments in accordance with applicable state laws and city ordinances.
  • Collaborate with the Commissioner of the Revenue, Treasurer, and other City departments to ensure timely and coordinated revenue assessment processes.
  • Respond to inquiries from taxpayers and provide information regarding account details.
  • Assist with research to help resolve taxpayer or tax account discrepancies or issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive taxpayer information.
Revenue Assessment Specialist II Responsibilities
  • Conduct and complete various tax assessments, including business and personal property taxes, business license taxes, landlord and contractor license taxes, and excise taxes.
  • Assess business equipment, personal property, and gross receipts in accordance with applicable tax regulations.
  • Utilize revenue assessment software to process and manage assessments efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintain and update business and individual taxpayer accounts, ensuring all records are current and compliant.
  • Prepare and maintain tax records, including annual setup of assessment systems, tax class codes and abatements, and tax books and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Commissioner of the Revenue, Treasurer, and other City departments to ensure timely and equitable tax implementation.
  • Identify and resolve tax account discrepancies and issues through research and communication with taxpayers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate interpretation and application of State and local tax codes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive taxpayer information.

Minimum Qualifications Revenue Assessment Specialist I
  • High school diploma required; associate's degree preferred; bachelor's degree in relevant fields desired.
  • Equivalent education, experience, or training may substitute for degree requirements.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software required.
  • Must demonstrate ethics and good judgment.
Revenue Assessment Specialist II
  • Associate’s degree required; bachelor's preferred in relevant fields.
  • Education, experience, or training may substitute for degree requirements.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software is required.
  • Must demonstrate ethics and good judgment.
  • Previous experience in tax assessment, accounting, data management, or government operations preferred.
Work Environment

The tasks are typically carried out in an office setting. This involves frequent use of computers and standard office equipment. There is also regular interaction with staff, various departments, and the public.
