Medical Technologist PRN at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center

In this PRN position, you will be responsible for performing a range of laboratory tests, ensuring quality control, instrument maintenance, and providing excellent patient care. The role is essential to supporting the hospital’s mission of delivering compassionate, high‑quality health services.

Job Summary and Qualifications
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of general lab policies and procedures, follows department‑specific policies, reviews all policy changes as required, and adheres to all regulatory guidelines.
  • Assesses situations, considers options, and formulates appropriate actions. Performs duties independently with no supervision and can serve as “tech‑in‑charge” when necessary.
  • Demonstrates initial and annual competency in all designated lab sections within set deadlines, performs proficiency testing when scheduled, and participates in continuing education activities.
  • Completes all facility and corporate mandatory annual training within set deadlines.
  • Assists the laboratory team with miscellaneous duties such as specimen receiving and supply organization.
  • Organizes and completes daily tasks in assigned area(s).
  • Troubleshoots, resolves instrument problems, documents corrective action, and performs instrumentation repairs when necessary. Investigates specimen collection problems using Outstanding Specimen Report and specimen tracking tools.
  • Performs quality control, documents results, works within quality control limits, trends, and follows corrective action procedures.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and safety checks of equipment according to schedule.
  • Trains new employees and/or students on general lab policies, procedures, and department‑specific requirements.
  • Assesses competency of testing personnel according to regulatory guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively, provides care, and assesses data appropriate to the age of the patient served.
Experience

Preferred – 1‑2 years experience as a Medical Technologist.

Education

Required – Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or Physical Science. A Nursing degree will be considered with the required CLIA acceptable courses.

Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science.

Certification

Required – Successful completion of registry within 6 months of hire for anyone with a hire date of or after 1.1.2005. Continuing education to maintain registry/licensure as required.

Acceptable – Registry or licensure in a specialty area.

Preferred – ASCP certification with continuing education to maintain registry/licensure as required.
