Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Observation - PT - Days

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is accountable to the patient care team for providing direct patient care functions under the supervision of a registered nurse and performing clerical, communication and other related duties to facilitate the efficient functioning of Department services. All duties are to be performed in collaboration with team members.

Duties are performed according to standards outlined in a competency‑based evaluation tool. The CNA participates in and accepts responsibility for functions delegated to the team. This position must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to our patients, the public and our co‑workers.

• Assists patients in routine activities of daily living, including: range of motion, ambulation, positioning, skin care, linen distribution and bed changing, feeding, meal delivery, routine hygiene care, toileting and incontinent care, as well as oral and personal hygiene.
• Assists with patient data and specimen collection: obtains urine, stool, and sputum specimens, records health/weight/vital signs including pulse oximetry, pain assessment, and input/output.
• Communicates patient status and reports changes in condition to licensed professionals.
• Performs and explains designated patient care procedures: incentive spirometry, patient transport, preparation for diagnostic tests, rehabilitation therapy assistance, pulse oximetry/oxygen setup, post‑mortem care, admission and discharge preparation, emergency assistance, equipment cleaning, suction (oral, nasopharyngeal), blood sugar finger sticks, IV catheter removal per licensed nurse instruction, department‑specific EKGs.
• Answers unit phone and directs calls appropriately.
• Performs data entry into electronic medical records, documents patient care and related duties appropriately, and performs selected patient registration activities.
• Coordinates equipment/supply needs and notifies the appropriate department of any malfunction.
• Performs any other related duties (e.g., clerical, technical) as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• CNA license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification required at hire.
• For CNAs working at Snowden at Fredericksburg: CPI is required within 90 days of hire.

• Constant walking, standing, use of arms and hands (67–100% of workday).
• Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting (34–66% of workday).

• Auditory and visual skills to include color determination.

• Potential risk of exposure to radiation, toxic chemicals, and blood borne pathogens; appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn.
• Clinical positions in Mary Washington Home Health and/or Hospice must also meet driving requirements.

$17.71 – $23.03 per hour.
