Multilingual Student and Family Support Specialist (with Spanish Proficiency)

The Multilingual Student & Family Support Specialist serves as a liaison between schools, multilingual families, and the community to support student engagement, family outreach, and successful school transitions for multilingual learners. This position assists families in navigating school systems, supports newcomer student onboarding and registration processes, and helps strengthen communication between home and school through culturally and linguistically responsive practices. The position provides indirect support for student academic success by helping students and families access school resources, supporting communication between educators and families, and collaborating with school staff to promote student engagement, attendance, and wellness.

This position is not a teaching or diagnostic role and does not provide direct instructional services. This position serves students and families across Pre-K12 schools and maintains a primary workspace within the Community Resource Center (CRC).

Minimum of a high school diploma with preferred post-secondary education credentials. Proficiency in public speaking, reading, writing, and speaking English and designated target language(s) based on division needs preferred (examples may include Spanish, Dari, Pashto) Strong interpersonal communication and collaborative skills with children and adults. Commitment to equitable educational practices, confidentiality, and ethical standards. Strong organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and community partners.

Experience working with multilingual learners, immigrant/refugee families, or diverse communities preferred.

Family Engagement and Communication Build and maintain positive relationships with multilingual students, families, stakeholders, and community members. Facilitate effective communication between schools and multilingual families and provide support in their home language, when possible. Assist families in understanding school procedures, expectations, programs, and available services. Promote family engagement and participation in school activities, conferences, and events. Conduct outreach to families regarding student attendance, engagement, and school support services.

Newcomer Onboarding and Transition Support Assist newly enrolled multilingual students and families with school orientation and transition processes. Support families in navigating school systems, schedules, transportation, registration requirements, and student services. Help facilitate welcoming practices for newcomer students and families entering the division.

Registration and Enrollment Assistance Support multilingual student registration and enrollment procedures. Assist families with required enrollment documentation and processes. Collaborate with school registrars and division staff to support multilingual learner identification and intake procedures where appropriate. Support initial multilingual learner screening logistics and family communication as assigned.

Interpretation and Translation Support Provide interpretation support during meetings, conferences, school events, and family engagement activities as assigned. Assist with translation of school-related communication and documents within division guidelines. Promote culturally responsive communication practices between schools and families.

Student Advocacy and Mentorship Serve as a positive advocate and support resource for multilingual students and families. Help students access school-based resources and support systems. Support student belonging, engagement, and successful adjustment to the school environment. Provide mentorship and encouragement to students navigating school transitions and adjustment challenges.

Attendance, Wellness, and Resource Coordination Collaborate with school staff to support attendance and wellness outreach efforts. Assist families in accessing school and community resources that support student well-being and engagement. Help connect families with community agencies and support services when appropriate.…
