Data Center Facility Manager acts as Amazon’s front line for hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting, maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting mission‑critical data center facility equipment including electrical support equipment such as stand‑by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3‑phase electrical systems (switch gear, UPS units, PDUs, wet cell batteries), mechanical equipment (CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers/water chemical systems, air handlers, pumps, motors), fire suppression systems, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.
In this role you will travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required by business needs.
Security Clearance:
The position requires a US citizen with an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility. After start, the selected candidate must obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph and satisfy other security related requirements.
- Oversee all aspects of the data center’s critical physical infrastructure to maintain high availability and performance while ensuring work complies with established practices, procedures and quality standards.
- Manage on‑site teams of 24x7 shift technicians, sub‑contractors, and vendors, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with safety protocols and service level agreements.
- Drive a safety and security culture, ensuring compliance within the team.
- Hire, coach, promote, and perform career development and performance management for team members.
- Promote a healthy team culture and maintain high morale.
- Efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.
- Engage in improvement projects, collaborating with cross‑functional teams and driving them from conception to completion.
- Act as the escalation point for all facilities‑related issues, overseeing routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switch gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
- Utilize root‑cause analysis and troubleshooting/problem‑solving skills to resolve issues.
- Respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls.
- 2+ years of people‑management and team‑development experience.
- 5+ years of engineering work managing large‑scale services.
- Experience maintaining SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting.
- Experience operating a mission‑critical team or product.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above.
- 3+ years in a management position with 5 or more direct reports.
- 5+ years of work in data centers with an emphasis on building and equipment operation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations (feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS, ATCS, PDU, chillers, pumps, air handling units, CRAC).
The base salary range for this position is USA, VA, Fredericksburg - - USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
