Our Data Center Engineering Operations team maintain and operate our critical infrastructure systems so that they are prepared to stand up against any situation.
Candidates must be able to travel over 50 miles or commute less than 50 miles to active data center sites as required by business needs. This position requires that the candidate selected be a US citizen and currently possess and maintain an active Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance. After start, the selected candidate must obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph and satisfy other security‑related requirements.
Keyjob responsibilities
- Act as the primary escalation point for all facilities‑related issues. Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as switch gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshooting of facility equipment within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and work with the Facility Manager to set team culture.
- Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
- Assist in the build out of new facilities and projects to increase current facility efficiency.
- Work outside of normal business hours for routine maintenance and respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls.
- Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience.
- Coordinate projects with IT managers and business leaders to manage capacity, optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.
- Establish building performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other basic administrative tools to perform day‑to‑day tasks.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds independently.
- Participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds.
- Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.
- Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push, and pull objects into position.
- Work in an environment requiring ear protection.
This role acts as Amazon’s front line for hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. The CE maintains, operates, and troubleshoots mission‑critical data center facility equipment including diesel generators, 3‑phase electrical systems, UPS units, PDUs, wet cell batteries, CRAHU units, centrifuge chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, and associated systems. The CE directs, trains, and supports technicians in providing hands‑on troubleshooting and operations.
Projects are managed from conception to completion, involving collaboration with engineering, automation, processing, and finance teams locally and globally.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems.
- Experience with power management and power monitoring systems.
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above.
- 5+ years of project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure experience.
- Knowledge of critical data center equipment and engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, or OSHA.
- Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations with a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
