Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing all day to day activities of the service and supporting the Associates who are providing care. In collaboration with the Director, the Nurse Manager provides leadership and direction in accordance with the organizational and departmental philosophy and goals.
The Nurse Manager also assists the Director and Nurse Educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist in maintaining the highest degree of clinical and operational performance of the service. The role is accountable for daily operational activities on a 24‑hour basis and demonstrates a commitment to quality, cost‑effective, customer‑focused service to patients, physicians, the public and co‑workers.

Create, Plan, Collaborate, Achieve Results, Listen, Understand, Communicate, and Exceed Partner Needs. - Develop and implement a schedule and staffing plan; approve the final department schedule.
- Assist in budget planning and management of the departmental budget.
- Coordinate the education and orientation plan with the Clinical Nurse Specialist.
- Utilize the performance improvement process to identify opportunities for improving outcomes in clinical effectiveness, clinical practice, service operations, and standards; collaborate with the Director and Nurse Educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist to implement improvements.
- Assist the Director and Physician leader in resolving customer satisfaction and quality issues.
- Demonstrate effective communication and problem‑solving skills with staff, physicians, and ancillary departments; provide timely feedback and problem resolution.
- Schedule at least 8 hours per month during off‑hour shifts/weekends; maintain communication with staff through huddles, emails, minutes, and communication books.
- Attend meetings and committees as assigned; participate in conflict resolution.
- Act as a resource to physicians and staff by clinical rounding and assessing unit operations; collaborate with ancillary departments to ensure availability of equipment and supplies and identify new technology for patient care.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements (JCAHO, EMTALA, Virginia State Health Department); disseminate information among staff and provide compliance updates to the Compliance Officer.
- Approve biweekly payroll, review monthly budget variances, and implement corrective action for productivity and cost control.
- Lead quality initiatives, implement Studer tools, maintain logs of rounding on Associates and patients, and develop action plans to address identified issues.
- Review departmental Associate competencies to ensure alignment with service goals and quality objectives.
- Respond to on‑call duties for the care center in collaboration with other Nurse Managers and the Director; provide departmental reports to partners as needed.
- Order and oversee sign‑off of department supplies, nourishment, and equipment.
- Maintain professional competencies by attending educational programs and participating in professional organizations; incorporate evidence‑based research to reduce variance.
- Encourage open discussions and creative free thinking; foster collegial relationships and mentor staff.
- Monitor and maintain staff compliance to performance expectations; participate in performance reviews; provide coaching, counseling, and mentoring.
- Participate in recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention processes; maintain position control and complete personnel action forms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school required.
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
- Valid RN License from Virginia or a reciprocal compact state required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider CPR required at hire.
- NIHSS (Bluecloud) proficiency required within 90 days.
- Professional Nursing Leadership Certification (ANCC or AONL) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years clinical nursing experience required.
- Minimum 2 years management experience required.
