Description:
The SICU serves a specialized patient population, including trauma cases, cardiovascular surgery patients, and neurosurgery cases. This role requires proficiency in managing patients who may present with acute ventilator needs, severe sepsis, or unstable gastrointestinal bleeding. Nurses will engage in the recovery of patients post-open heart surgery and TAVR procedures. The position involves managing multi-system organ failure and care of patients on continuous renal replacement therapy.
Interpretation of arterial blood gases and management of dysrhythmias are key responsibilities. The nurse patient ratio will be appropriate to skill level and acuity. Floating to non-ICU units may be required depending on operational needs. Frequency of weekend shifts will be every other weekend. All applicants must be capable of handling a variety of patient diagnoses and support interventions as needed.
Technical skills required include ventilator management, central line care, and procedural sedation administration. The ideal candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care.
